50 Shades of New York City
New York, New York you are one hell of a town!
Everyone always references Toronto as a smaller New York - and although they have many similarities, nothing compares to New York. This past week, I spent 3 days in New York City with Universal Pictures for the DVD launch of Fifty Shades Darker! They were kind enough to fly me to the heart of New York City, where I stayed at the Hilton Midtown Hotel for 3 days.
I landed on May 3rd, after a bumpy flight, and jumped right into the city. My first stop - Broadway! All my life I have always been in love with musicals, and plays. Though I could not sing to save my life - that has never stopped me from singing my favourite songs at the top of my lungs! Now I’ve seen many musicals over the years, so I wanted to pick something I would really enjoy, and what 90s baby doesn’t love a good Disney play! Aladdin the musical popped up, and it did not disappoint! From the props, the costumes, the highlight that could blind you from a mile away, the actors, and my favourite Aladdin songs - I.Was.Just.Stunned. If you are ever in New York I strongly recommend seeing this play!
After sleeping off my broadway excitement, I spent the morning on May 4th exploring the beautiful Central Park. I walked from 54th all the way to 80th (in New Yorker that’s a SERIOUS walk) with my head in the blue sky, and my heart surrounded by the most beautiful spring blossoms. It was like experiencing a little part of the country right in the centre of the a massive city. Although I may have taken a few wrong turns, I enjoyed every step of the way.
Halfway through the day, I made my way back to my hotel to get ready for the main reason I was in the Big Apple - Fifty Shades Darker! Now this may be a big surprise to you, but I actually read all three books in the Fifty Shades Trilogy. So I was really excited when they invited me to a special screening of the unrated, extended edition, of Fifty Shades Darker! I was also able to sit down for a one on one interview with Rosalina Da Silva, Head of Department and Makeup Designer, and Costume Designer Shay Cunliffe, for the film. These women were so remarkably sweet and gave some amazing tips when it came to styling. They also did a special Q&A with the Author E.L. James, and she was just the sweetest woman! It was so funny to see that such a sexy book came from this sweet little woman. I guess it just really goes to show you can never judge a book by its cover!
